What is SSL?
SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer, an encryption technology. SSL creates an encrypted connection between your web server and your visitor’s web browser. Having this prevents private information from being transmitted and problems with data tampering, message forgery or eavesdropping. Also most SSL server certificates will only secure a single domain name or sub-domain. So for multiple domain names you will need to buy multiple SSL certificates.
To enable SSL on your website, you will need to purchase and SSL Certificate that identifies you and is installed on your server. A trust seal is a logo that can be displayed on your web site that verifies that you have been validated and are using a SSL certificate to secure your site. Clients will know that your site is secured when they see a padlock icon in the web browser or if they see a green address bar. Once you have installed the SSL cert you can access a site securely by changing the URL from http:// to https://. An SSL certificate will ensure that contact or credit card information is secured and can only be seen by the organization that owns the website. If your website is not secured then it is possible for every piece of data being entered on your site to be seen by others. Therefore customers will not trust your site.
